      Carey Burnham Black – Saint John, 26 Feb 1951
       Many friends will learn with regret today of the death of Carey Burnham Black which occurred this morning at his residence, 464 Champlain Street, after a lengthy period of failing health.
       Mr. Black was born at Cambridge, N.B., in 1876, a son of the late James and Mary Black and for many year was associated with the firm of Hall and Fairweather, Ltd. In later years he carried on his own business in Saint John. In 1898 Mr. Black was instrumental in building and organizing a Sunday School at Pleasant Point, N.B., where he was superintendent for 30 years. He was also superintendent of the Fairville Baptist Sunday School for a great many years, was an ardent worker in various boys’ groups, and will be remembered as chaplain of the Temple of Honor and leader of the boys’ section in the North End of the city.
       At the time of his death, Mr. Black was a member of Charlotte Street Baptist Church, West Saint John, where he served as Deacon of the church. Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Minnie E. Appleby; three daughters, Mrs. Fred A. Duff, Toronto; Mrs. Purdy M. Cougle, Woodstock; Mrs. Forbes McLeod, Fairville; one sister, Mrs. John Craft, Woburn, Mass.; one brother, Ralph S. Black, Saint John, as well as five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one niece and one nephew.
       The body is resting ast his residence and the funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon with service at 2.30 o’clock. Interement will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery Extension.
