    1. [S4] Obituary.
BAILEYVILLE – George Edmund Fitzsimmons, 85, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012 at a Bangor hospital. George was born in St. Stephen, N.B. on January 25, 1927, son of the late Herber and Georgina (Swift) Fitzsimmons. On October 1, 1953, he married Patricia Hayes in St. Stephen. George worked for Georgia Pacific for over 32 years as a machine tender, and most recently as a custodian for the Woodland School Department, where he worked alongside his wife Pat. Both George and Pat found great joy in being involved in the lives of the children at school. He was a Communicant of St. James the Greater R.C. Church in Baileyville, a member of Calais Council #149 Knights of Columbus, and the Quarter Century Club with Georgia Pacific. George will be remembered for always having a smile on his face, his fun nature of teasing and joking, but most importantly his devotion to his family.
In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Patricia “Pat” Fitzsimmons; a son Paul Fitzsimmons; three grandchildren, Jennifer, Anna and Danny Armstrong; a son-in-law Ron Armstrong; and two sisters, Marjorie Tammaro and Grace Ross. Surviving are a son Jeffrey Fitzsimmons and his wife Debbie of San Antonio, TX; three daughters, Frances Engroff and her companion Gordon Newell of Baileyville, Patricia Metta and her husband George of Baileyville, and Laura Butler and her husband Fred of Casco; a sister Dorothy McCurdy of Kamloops, B.C.; twelve grandchildren, Rory, Joshua, Spec. Aaron, Nicole, A.J., Jordan, Hannah, Kimberly, Brian, Adam, Ryan and Heidi; numerous “adopted” grandchildren from the community; many nieces and nephews; many dear friends; and his feline companion, Nervey.
Visiting hours will be held 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. James the Greater R.C. Church in Baileyville with Father James Plourde, Celebrant. A spring burial for both George and his wife Pat will be held in Woodland Cemetery. Donations in George’s memory may be made to either St. James the Greater R. C.
