      Sudden Death in Homan Home
Mrs. Walter Homan, of Dow City, Passes Away Some Time Friday Night at Her Dow City Home.
Was Found Dead in Her Bed
Husband Not Aware of Wife’s Death Until Calling Her in Morning — Husband and Two Children Left.
DOW CITY, July 22 – Special – On Friday Night, sadness came into the Walter Homan home when the wife and mother suddenly passed away. The deceased was apparently in her usual good health and being taken so suddenly makes her passing doubly hard to bear. Early Sundy morning, Mr. Homan arose and started the fire preparatory for breakfast. He then called his wife and left the house to attend to his chores. Upon returning later, he became alarmed in not finding her up about the house and going to her room, found that she was no more. It is thought that she had been dead several hours at the time.
Hilda Akofer was born at Des Moines, Iowa, Dec. 3, 1882, and died at her home near Dow City, July 18, 1919, at the age of 36 years, 5 months and 16 days. When about four years of age, she moved with her parents to Omaha, Nebr. On Sept. 3, 1907, she was united in marriage with Walter Homan, and to this union two children were born, Charles and Lois. The Homans moved to the vicinity of Dow City five years ago, since which time they have made many friends here. When about fifteen years of age, Mrs. Homan accepted Christ as her personal Savior, and united with the Baptist church in which she was a most faithful worker. She will be greatly missed in the home and church and in her wide circle of firends. Her sudden death was a shock to all. She leaves to mourn her early demise, her husband, son, Charles, and daughter, Lois, her mother, Mrs. Rose Akofer, of Omaha, two brothers, Charles of Valier, Mont., and Andrew, of York, Nebr., besides numerous friends.
The body was brought to the Baptist parsonage Saturday and the funeral was held in the church Sunday, at 1 p. m., conducted by Rev. G. A. Barker, the pastor. The remains were taken to Omaha that afternoon on the Illinois Central train at 2:17, for interment, Rev. Barker accompanying. The fried stricken family have the most heartfelt sympathy of everyone in the community.
