VENTURA, Calif. — Guy F. Cooper, 76, passed away suddenly in the early hours of April 1, 2007, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Ventura, Calif. Guy was born Aug. 27, 1930, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and was a resident of Ventura County for 42 years.
He graduated from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., with a degree in aerospace engineering. Guy worked at Point Magu Naval Air Systems for 29 years before his retirement in 1994. His accomplishments, awards and career as an aerospace engineer span well over 40 years.
Having been an avid inventor, Guy holds 24 technical patents. He was also an electrical engineer, a 50-year member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), a member of the Missile Technical Historical Society, an active member of Ventura’s Midtown Council and has been a dedicated volunteer for several organizations including the Special Olympics.
Aside from his work, Guy had many passions and always stayed busy. He enjoyed nature and being outdoors, especially walking on the beach with his wife and dogs. Guy would arrive at sunrise almost every morning to swim around the Ventura Pier with a group of friends for the last 20 years. Flying planes, hang-gliding, deep sea diving, hiking, biking and traveling were just a few of his favorite activities.
Guy was outgoing and engaging, meeting and talking with new people wherever he went. He was a humanitarian striving to improve the world we live in through his inventions. He was honest, selfless and giving, caring deeply for his wife and family, mankind, animals and the environment. He was a dedicated husband, wonderful father and friend to all. Guy F. Cooper was a truly remarkable man and will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched.
The Cooper family would like to thank the many friends who have offered their help and assistance in this difficult time.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Irene; son, Glenn Cooper; daughter Kari Cooper; sisters-in-law, Roberta Horne and Glenda Brown; nephews, Christopher and Daniel Cooper and Gaylord and Lorry Brown; niece Tamara Buddin; many family members and friends; and by his four-legged companions, Bagels and Caol.
Guy was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ruth Cooper of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; and his brother, Alan Cooper of Nicasio, Calif.
