    1. [S4] Obituary.
      Merle Augusta Nesbitt Skinner passed away peacefully as she slept in the early morning hours of January 11th, 2011. Merle had reached the remarkable age of 103. She was born to Hannah Belle Speer Nesbitt and Josiah McKeague Nesbitt on August 6th, 1907 in Traer, Iowa. She attended grade school and high school in Arapahoe, Colorado. Merle attended Colorado State Teachers College and graduated in June of 1928. She taught school for several years before she met and married her husband, Edward Ellsworth Skinner on December 24th in 1945. Merle was one of four sisters, Dorothy Luvura Nesbitt Lawson, Helen Jane Nesbitt Barnes, and a baby sister unnamed.
       Merle was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Arvada, Colorado. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and she continued to go on trips and cruises after his death. She enjoyed playing cards with a regular group of friends. She had many good friends but has outlived many of them.
       Proceeding her in death were her parents, her sisters, Dorothy Lawson and Helen Barnes, her baby sister, her husband Edward, brothers-in-law, Lewis Lawson and Raymond Barnes, a niece Patsy Barnes, and a great nephew, Ronald Warren.
       Surviving are her nephew Roger L. Barnes and his wife Pat of Colorado Springs and his children Luann and her husband Phil Burke of Loveland and David Barnes of Colorado Springs. Also surviving is her niece Betty Tucker of Yelm, Washington and her children, Dan, Kay, John, Sue, Patsy and Jeannie.
       Merle moved to Colorado Springs May of 2005 to be closer to her nephew because she needed some assistance. She has resided at the Pikes Peak Care Center since that time. Merle will be laid to rest next to her husband after a graveside service in Ft. Logan Cemetery in Denver, Colorado at 1:30PM on Thursday the 14th. Memorial gifts to charities of your choice are requested in lieu of flowers.
