William E. York, 96, of Libby Road died Sunday at a Portland hospital. A lifelong resident, he was a son of Wilber and Maud Emery York, and attended local schools. Mr. York worked on various roads for the town of Buxton including the West Buxton Bridge, and for more than 10 years, he drove school buses for the town. He later worked at Knowlton Machine, Bart Manufacturing and Southworth Machine. Mr. York enjoyed keeping his lawn and garden. His wife, Martha Cousins York, died in 1985. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Stanford (Marian) Davis of Gorham; two sons, Everett L. of Hollis and William L. of Buxton; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at Dennett-Craig and Pate Funeral Home, Route 202 and Portland Road, followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Don Smith officiating. Spring burial will be in South Buxton Cemetery.
