    1. [S4] Obituary.
      After an illness extending over a period of two years a highly esteemed and respected citizen of Torbrook Mines in the person of William Voorheis Spurr passed away at his home on Monday, Feb. 27th, at the age of 69 years.In early life Mr. Spurr followed the teaching profession. For 42 years he conducted a general store at Torbrook Mines and held the position of postmaster for 40 years. He was well known to the general public, who will regret to learn of his passing. Besides his wife, the former Lola Woodward, of Granville, he is survived by four children: Margaret (Mrs. D.B. Armstrong), Halifax; Jean (Mrs. Robert Shotton), Victoria, B.C.; Philip, Yorkton, Sask., and Joyce at home. Two brothers also survive: Harry B. Spurr, Southboro, Mass., and George Heber Spurr, Somerville, Mass., and two grandchildren. A son, George Edgar, a brother Edgar and sister, Carrie, predeceased him.
       The funeral service was held at the United Church, Torbrook Mines, on Thursday, March 2nd, conducted by Rev. H.S. Bird, assisted by Rev. F.R. Doleman. Interment was in Torbrook Mines Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Homer Noble, LeRoy Beals, Clyde Neily and Carl Armstrong. The male choir with Mrs. Leslie Banks as organist, sang, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” and “Abide With Me.” Frank L. Martyn sang as a solo, “Beyond the Sunset.”
