      FITCHBURG – Loretta S. Marchant, 83, of Freeman Nursing Home, Main Street, Pepperell, formerly of Fitchburg, died Friday night in Nashoba Community Hospital, Ayer.
       She leaves a sister, Florence "Toddy" Smart of Lunenburg; nephews and nieces; grandnephews and grandnieces. Her brother, Chester Marchant of Fitchburg, died in 1987.
       She was born in Fitchburg, daughter of Owen R. and Selma M. (Eckland) Marchant, and lived here all her life before moving to Pepperell in 1985. She was a kitchen worker for many years at several area restaurants before she retired. Miss Marchant was a member of Assembly of God Church.
       Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Forest Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Daryl Nicolet will officiate. There are no calling hours. Bosk Funeral Home, 85 Blossom St., is directing arrangements.
