Leland A. Jewell Jr., 83, of Fredonia died Sunday morning (Jan. 15, 2012) at the Chautauqua County Home in Dunkirk.
He was born May 28, 1928 in Buffalo, the son of the late Leland A. Sr. and Norma (Trevalle) Jewell.
A U.S. Air Force sergeant, Mr. Jewell served as a medic for four years during the Korean War. He worked at Brooks Hospital and was a steel worker at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation for 30 years. Following his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking,
making stained glass items and was an avid collector of antiques. Mr. Jewell was a member of Harvest Chapel Free Methodist Church and was active in Chautauqua County Community Chorus where he sang tenor. He also sang for many years in the Quartet Gospel Sound with his wife. He was a hard-working man who enjoyed and cherished his family and many friends.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Kay (Griffin) Jewell; two sons, Mark (Renee) Jewell of Rochester and Steven Jewell of Gowanda; one daughter, Kimberlee (John) Jewell of West Seneca; four sisters, Rita Ellis of Blasdell, Paula (Her-bert) Zinter of Hamburg, Bonnie Pruett of North Carolina and Bridget (John) Wright of Silver Creek; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, infant Paul, Harry, Albert and Robert Jewell; two sisters, Phyllis Smith and Norma Brown.
