    • Married first in 1844 to Martha B. Hopkinson who died in 1895 in Lawrence, MA. On 5 Aug 1896 he married Mrs. Susan T. W. Stearns. He moved to Iowa after his wifes death in 1913 and was living with his daughter Cora M. Beach in 1920. Jacob was a carpenter.

    6. [S4] Obituary.
      Jacob McDuffee, former Portland builder and contractor, who would have been 100 years old June 30, died in Dubuque, Ia., Tuesday, according to news received in Portland by his stepson, David S. Stearns. Following the funeral services in Dubuque the body will be taken to Lawrence, Mass., for burial.
      While a resident of Portland frome 1896 to 1913, Mr. McDuffee built a great number of Portland homes, some of which were contracted for after he was 80 years of age.
      He was born in Rochester, N. H., in 1822. Following the death of Mrs. McDuffee in 1913, he was taken by his daughter, Mrs. George W. Beach, in Dubuque to live. He was a member of Sunnyside M. E. church while in this city and resided at 973 Belmont street.
      Two grandsons and three stepchildren survive him in Portland. The grandchildren are S. Vere McDuffee, head bookkeeper for Fleischner, Mayer &, and Herbert McDuffee, a real estate dealer. Besides Stearns, the stepchildren are Judge J. O. Stearns and Annie M. Niles.
