Lucille May Messamer Diddy, 88, died February 23, 2004 at home. She is survived by her husband, Lovell Diddy of Ridge Manor, FL; a son, Gary Diddy and his wife, Janet of Arvada, CO; a daughter, Kathleen Tomsen and her husband, Farol of Gainesville, FL; five grandchildren, Sara Diddy Colvard and her husband, John of Cumming, GA, Hugh Diddy of San Francisco, CA, Farol L. Tomson of Chicago, IL, Elizabeth Tomson Sergile and her husband, Alain of Alpharetta, GA, and Eric Tomson of Boston, MA; four great-grandchildren, Jake and Chloe Colvard of Cumming, GA, and Tessa and Sebastien Sergile of Alpharetta, GA; two brothers, Phillip of Adel, IA, and Charles of Indianapolis, IN; two sisters, Jessie Blomquist of Stuart, IA, and Mary Cunningham of Perry, IA.
She was born April 10, 1915 to T.R. and Beulah Messamer in Barnum, Minnesota. She graduated in 1932 from Osceola High School in Osceola, Iowa and in 1934 completed a two-year teaching degree at McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas. She taught country school near Adel, Iowa until her marriage to Lovell Diddy on August 17, 1937. In 1954, she returned to teaching and taught the fifth grade at Meservey (Iowa) Consolidated School and later taught social studies in high school and was the school librarian. She completed her B.A. degree at Drake University in 1956.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brother, Lawrence, Maurice and Theodore, Jr; three sisters, Fay Mitchell, Hazel Price and Lois Robinson; and three infant siblings.
