      BELLA VISTA, ARK., AND FORT FAIRFIELDRobert S. Doughty Jr., 78, passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at a Bella Vista, Ark., health care facility after a brief period of declining health. He was born March 10, 1934, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Robert S. Sr. and Gertrude M. (Sprague) Doughty.
       He was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School, class of 1952, served in the U.S. Army Special Forces during the Korean War, later served with Maine National Guard and had been self-employed as an insurance agent at R. S. Doughty Associates Ltd., Des Moines, Iowa, for many years. While residing in Fort Fairfield, Robert had been a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and an active member of the Jaycee’s Club.
       In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his previous wife, Gladys Doughty; one brother, Earle Doughty; and two grandchildren, Curtis Doughty and Drew Rattray. He is survived by his wife, Nadine Doughty of Bella Vista, Ark.; three sons, Kent Doughty and wife, Kim, of Veazie, Kerby Doughty of Fort Fairfield and companion, Letitia Worster, and Terry Doughty of Plainville, Conn.; three daughters, Barbara Ireland of Presque Isle, Becky Rattray and husband, Dana, of Fort Fairfield, and Kelli Doughty of Iowa; five stepsons, Michael and David Perkins, Dan, Dave and Bill Shutt, all of Iowa; two brothers, Dale Doughty of Casco, and Don Doughty and wife, Priscilla, of Fort Fairfield; one sister, Linda Ireland of Brunswick; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
       Friends may call 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a celebration of Robert’s life will be conducted 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ronald Doughty officiating. Interment will take place after the service at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment at Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Robert to the Foundation of the University of Maine at Presque Isle, Robert S. Doughty Jr. Scholarship Fund, 181 Main St., Presque Isle, ME 04769. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
