Bruce D. Doughty, 1925-2012, left our world on Sept. 4, 2012.
Born April 3, 1925, in Fort Fairfield, Maine, Bruce was the 17th child of 20 children born to William and Janet Coes Doughty. During his youth he worked the family farm. In 1945, he married his sweetheart, Phyllis Dorsey. They moved to Connecticut in 1950, where they raised their family. Bruce worked as a carpenter and was a member of the Manchester Auxiliary Police. He worked at Manchester Lumber, after that he worked for the Town of Manchester until he retired in 1989. Since 2007, he has made his home in Pageland, S.C.
Bruce was predeceased by 13 brothers, five sisters, and his son, Mitchell Doughty; grandson, Jeffery Doughty; and great-granddaughter, Willow Nichols. Bruce is survived by the love of his life and best friend for more than 66 years, Phyllis. He is also survived by his sister, Gertrude Smith; his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Michael Nichols; and his sons and daughters-in-law, Brian Sr. and Diane Doughty, Randy and Eileen Doughty; and his 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. He was a kind and loving man who will be greatly missed.
Graveside service will be held at East Cemetery, (section G Div. Wsmtr), 220 E. Center St., Manchester, on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to Connecticut, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
