Eddy Gilmore married three times. His first wife was Barbara. In 1938 he married my mother, Margaret Cook, born 1910 and still going strong. I was born in 1940 when my parents lived in Washington DC. Eddy went to Russia, divorced my mother, and married Tamarra in 43. He died in London in 1957. I met him three times.
I’ve just asked my mother what if anything she remembered Eddy saying about Barbara. Her only story is that she didn’t know that he was married before, until he told her, bursting into tears, on their wedding night. I seem to remember her telling me or reading somewhere that Eddy and Barbara went to college together. He went to Carnegie Tech.
I have for 25 years been the Writer in Residence at Shakespeare & Co. Librarie, 37 rue de la Bucherie, Paris.
       Ciao

Dawson, Margaret (née Cook) “Margot” 100 – of Margate, passed away on January 5, 2011. Beloved mother of Schuyler M. (Dawson) McClain. She is predeceased by her two sons Parker Reis and Christopher Cook Gilmore. She is also survived by her grandchildren Emily McClain, Parker Reis, Jr. and Maureen Reis.
Born October 16, 1910 in Washington, DC, she spent summers in Margate and eventually moved there permanently. Margot graduated with an English literature degree from George Washington University and graduated from Corcoran College of Art and Design. After raising her three children, she became a full time artist working from her studio in her Margate home. Her paintings were exhibited in local galleries, shops and restaurants and the Atlantic City Boardwalk Art Show. Her home was her primary exhibition space and her paintings covered most of the walls and sometimes the ceiling. Margot’s joyful, open-minded and exuberant personality will be missed by all who knew her.
