Margaret Cooper, 89, of Cherry, Ariz., passed away Oct. 17, 2010, at the VA Hospital in Prescott, Ariz., with family by her side. Margaret was born Sept. 23, 1921, to Lenna and Isa Smith in Minburn, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur in 1975, parents and three brothers. She is survived by her daughter Nancy Cooper of Cherry, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Nicole (Wylie) Johnson, Noah Wylie, Rachel Wylie, Jacob Cooper, Brandon Cooper and Brian Cooper; and two great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in 1942. Margaret served as an Army nurse on the front lines in the South Pacific during World War II from 1943 to 1946. After the war she located in Kentucky where she met her husband Arthur Cooper and they married in 1948. She and her family returned to Iowa in 1954. She was night supervisor at Mary Greely Hospital in Ames, Iowa, for 22 years. In 1977, she moved to Arizona to be close to her only child, Nancy, and her family. Besides her family, nursing was Margaret’s passion. She worked as a nurse continually from her graduation in 1942 until her retirement in 2005, when she retired from nursing at the age of 84. Margaret was a kind and compassionate person and will be deeply missed by family and friends.
